CHANHASSEN, Minn. -- A teenager who died in a car accident in Chanhassen Monday night has been identified.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the 14-year-old girl as Roaslynn (Rosie) Smith Delmain. Her cause of death was determined as multiple blunt force injuries.
The State Patrol says Delmain, of Eden Prairie, was a passenger in a 1999 Ford Escort driven by her father, who driving northbound when he apparently lost control and veered into the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Pleasant View Road just after 8 p.m. Monday.
The driver of a 2004 Explorer tried to avoid the other vehicle but struck it in the front passenger side door. Delmain was riding in that seat, and was killed by the impact.
A total of seven people were riding in the vehicles. Besides Rosie Delmain, none were seriously injured.
The State Patrol said conditions were icy at the time of the crash.
Overall it has been a treacherous stretch on Minnesota roads. Between 3 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, 477 crashes were reported statewide, 54 of them involving injuries.
In the Twin Cities Metro, 236 crashes were noted, with 23 reported injuries and one fatality.
The State Patrol urges motorists to drive cautiously, be light on the accelerator and use adequate following distance.
