GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- The family of a 6-year-old boy who drowned Saturday night in a Golden Valley lake is speaking out about the tragedy.
Authorities say the boy, Tony Martin Caine, drowned in Wirth Lake at Theodore Wirth Park around 5:30 p.m.
Family members say Tony was swimming with at least a dozen cousins and siblings during a family birthday party. Relatives also say two adults were supervising the group of kids, but they say now that was too few to make sure all the children were safe.
"Things happen fast but also I should have made another adult come with me," said Rose Walker, Tony's aunt. "I have watched all of them before and have never had an incident like this, but I should have asked for more assistance."
Tony's mother says her son was a sweet boy who loved to dance, draw and tell jokes.
"All I can say is give your babies lessons to prevent this because anything can happen and my son is gone," said Latoya Walker, Tony's mother.
The family is currently in the process of setting up a memorial fund.
