CORCORAN, Minn. -- We continue our "Share Your Backyard Tour" by visiting the home of Larry and Lois Anderson in Corcoran, Minnesota. A beautiful backyard that started with only three hostas has now grown to host over 118 varieties, which are included in the multiple gardens that are home to this backyard.
Lois Anderson's love of gardening started over 20 years ago. She bought three hostas and some flowering perennials to start her first garden, and these few plants became the foundation for Lois's multiple garden project. Every month Lois plants a new hosta, creating her collection of 118 different varieties.
Gardening is not just a solo activity for Lois, her sisters also love gardening. The sisters have been able to split their plants and share with each other making gardening budget friendly. Their conversations are usually about flowers, and when they visit one another they walk through each sister's backyards to inspect the growth of their gardens. Along sharing a passion for gardening with her sisters, Lois's backyard provides a place of comfort for her and her husband Larry. Each morning they have their coffee on the porch while talking about the overall placement of the plants and first impression of each of the gardens.
Lois's gardens are ever changing. Next year Lois and Larry plan on moving their fence further back so they can expand the hosta garden. Larry will build the fence just as he did the beautiful arbor and pathway. The gardens provide a place of peace, relaxation, and appreciation for the hard work and personal touch that the Anderson's backyard showcases.
