ST. PAUL - Police say the handgun involved in Thursday's accidental shooting of a 2-year-old boy was discovered in an unlocked cabinet and the boy who accidentally shot Jacob Xiong in the head believed the gun was unloaded.

Xiong was taken to Regions Hospital. Police say that he was in serious, but stable condition.

Officers say the boy who shot Xiong was an older brother who was playing with the gun.

Emergency crews were called to the 1300 block of Beech Street just after 12:00 p.m. Thursday on a report a child had fallen.

When they arrived they found Xiong with the gunshot wound and rushed him to the hospital.

Xiong's parents were not at the home at the time of the shooting.

Xiong's 16-year-old sister was babysitting him and his three other brothers, ages 7, 9 and 10.

Police are not saying which older brother shot Xiong.
