  • GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Fall is a time for new beginnings, and it's the perfect time to get creative for family time.

Happi Olson from Creative Kidstuff joined KARE 11 Today to share some new activities for families to try.

    Here are her suggestions:

Try a new hobby: Red Tool Box is a line of real tools made just for kids. Youngsters can saw, hammer and drill away. There are kits to build or the tools can be used free form.

Try new foods: Plan a taste testing to discover new foods that might become new favorites. Shop for the items as a family. Assign each family member to choose one or two new foods or recipes. Prepare the food tasting together. Give each family member a score sheet with the names of the food and scoring.

    Sweet Potato Chips

    Makes 4 servings
    2 medium sweet potatoes
    2 tbsp. olive oil
    Salt and pepper

    1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
    2. Peel 2 medium sweet potatoes and slice as thinly as possible.
    3. Toss with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and spread in a thin layer on a cookie sheet.
    4. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika.
    5. Bake about 20 minutes or until crispy.

Play a New Game: Choose a new family game and hunker down together for some quality time.

Go on a new adventure: Do something as a family you have never done before. Visit a place you have always been meaning to go or try a new activity. New places to go or things to do include Sever's Corn Maze, rock climbing walls, and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
