GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - In about two weeks, some of the season's most frantic shopping will take place. So which day will you be able to score the best deals? Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
Consumer savings expert, Candice Cerro, joined KARE 11 News at 4 to help us determine which is better, both for your wallet and your mental health.
Candice offers up the following tips from Promotional Codes-
Snag Deals between Meals
With online shopping growing in popularity, businesses have begun to offer online deals earlier and earlier. Some, such as Kohl's, even start before Thanksgiving and run through Cyber Monday with multiple offers over the course of the week! While people are busy waiting in line, you can be at home deciding between pumpkin and pecan pie as you do your holiday shopping.
Plus, with more people out of the house and away from the computer, you can take your time finding the best deal without worrying over whether supplies will last.
Some retailers are now offering deals equivalent to their doorbusters online, but most are still only offering large discounts on particular items such as televisions, gaming systems and more. If you have a specific big ticket item in mind, do your research in advance. Retailers will announce doorbuster deals before Thanksgiving so you'll be able to find out if it will only be available in stores or not. If it's a big ticket item and the savings is much greater, it might be worth it to battle the crowds.
Using Gift Cards to be a Savings Ninja
Give your gift list the one-two punch by purchasing gift cards at a discounted price for the retailers you know you'll shop during the holidays. Sites like ABCgiftcards.com and Cardpool.com allow you to buy gift cards at a variety of retailers like Nike, Toys R Us, Apple and more. For those who know they'll be shopping at a specific retailer, purchase gift cards in advance and use them as currency. Couple that with Cyber Monday discounts and you'll have savings on top of savings!
Try it on and test it out
By actually going to brick and mortar stores on Black Friday you have an opportunity to see the goods in person. If you're unsure which laptop to pick, you can actually test it out in stores and see which you like better. Likewise, if you're shopping for clothes for yourself, you can actually try them on and you might even talk yourself out of it if the fit isn't right. Plus, some people enjoy the outing with friends and loved ones to hunt for the best deals in the land.
The Gift of Travel
Giving a loved one a vacation for the holidays is a sure way to sky rocket yourself to the top of their favorite list and it's a gift you can't pick up in stores. While this can be a pricier gift, travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, Southwest Airlines Vacations and Hotels will partake in the shopping holidays around Thanksgiving so you can save hundreds of dollars and make this lavish gift more feasible. This year during the Black Friday weekend, many will cash in on these savings and purchase a vacation. Couples can go in on this gift together to take a trip to ensure a gift that they'll both love.
