BLOOMINGTON, Minn.  --  Organizers say some 55,000 people, many donning pink, gathered at the Mall of America for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Sunday morning.

With near perfect weather, crowds began arriving early for the 5K run, 5K walk, 1K walk and survivor celebration that raises awareness and money for the fight against breast cancer.

Olympic gymnastic gold medalist Nastasia Liukin participated in this year's walk, along with her team of about 50 supporters of the breast cancer cause.

For the past 19 years, approximately $30 million has been awarded to Minnesota organizations for breast cancer awareness, education, outreach, screening, preliminary treatment and research.

Again this year KARE 11 is the media sponsor of the Twin Cities Race for the Cure®.  Participants stopped by KARE Corner to have their team photo taken with KARE 11 personalities.  The commemorative photos can be found on www.kare11.com/race  to print and share.
