GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.--   French chef and author Wini Moranville joined us today to share some recipes from her new book, The Bonne Femme Cookbook: Simple, Splendid Food that French Women Cook Every Day.  This cookbook brings authentic French food to American home cooks in 250 recipes that reflect the way real French families eat today.

Here are the recipes Wini shared with us today:

Makes about 2 cups

1/2 cup finely chopped dried figs
1/2 cup finely chopped dried apricots
1/2 cup chopped dried cherries
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup Cognac or brandy
1 teaspoon finely chopped orange zest
Pinch of salt

1. In a medium-size saucepan, combine the figs, apricots, cherries, orange juice, sugar, Cognac, orange zest, and salt. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is reduced and syrupy, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate.

2. Bring to room temperature before serving.

BRIGHT MINI SALAD for the cheese course
Makes about 4 salads

1 small garlic clove, minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
2 teaspoons sherry vinegar or rice vinegar
1 tablespoon sunflower or walnut oil
Dash of red pepper sauce
2 cups frisee, tender arugula, or curly endive, or a combination, or 1 cup watercress and 1 cup mile tender lettuce, such as butter head or read leaf lettuce

1. Put the garlic clove and alt and pepper in a small bowl; mash with the back of a spoon. Add the vinegar and whisk until the salt is dissolved. Add the oil, whisking until incorporated. Whisk in the red pepper sauce.

2. In a salad bowl, toss the greens with the dressing. Serve about ½ cup of greens per person alongside the cheeses of your choosing.
