ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Marjorie Johnson, the "Blue Ribbon Baker", is showing off her famous cooking skills at the KARE 11 barn Saturday morning.
Johnson, who has won over 2,500 fair ribbons, will share one of her favorite blue ribbon recipes with us.
Recipe for Marjorie Johnson's banana Bread:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 cup mashed bananas
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
Cream together butter and sugar well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
Beat in lemon juice, mashed bananas, and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients together and stir into the egg mixture alternately with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Stir in the walnuts. Grease two small bread pans that are 7 × 3-1/2 inches. Put wax paper or parchment paper in the bottom of each pan and grease the top of the paper. Pour in batter.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Let batter stand in pans for 10 minutes before baking.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes. Remove from oven.
Let stand in pan 10 minutes on cooling rack, then remove from pan.
