MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- His co-horts around KARE 11 know firsthand about Mike Pomeranz's passion for BBQ. During the summer the KARE 11 backyard becomes his makeshift kitchen.
Now, the rest of Minnesota has the opportunity to learn about Mike's outdoor grilling fever firsthand, with the unveiling of his latest venture: Fielder's Choice™ All Purpose BBQ Sauce.
A longtime fan of BBQ, Pomeranz developed the Fielder's Choice recipe himself and introduced the sauce to fans on Opening Day at Target Field. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to some of Mike's favorite Twin Cities-based charities.
Through a relationship with the Minnesota Twins, 19-ounce bottles of Fielder's Choice will be sold at the Twins Pro Shops at Target Field and other metro Pro Shop locations beginning April 8. Bottles will retail for $8.00.
Fielder's Choice is also available for local retail outlets, grocery stores, restaurants, foodservice providers and caterers.
"I developed a love for all things BBQ while living in East Tennessee early in my career," explains Pomeranz. "I got my first smoker and tried just about every kind of meat I could get my hands on. I began learning and sampling from some of the best pitmasters around. All the while, I grew to love the process as much as the end result."
Pomeranz is an avid outdoor cook whose grilling enthusiasm is well known to KARE 11 viewers. He has hosted a live grilling segment on KARE's Friday summer broadcasts since 2006.
When he came up with the idea of forumulating his own sauce Mike was driven by the idea that a single good sauce should be able to be used on most everything.
"It took me 15 years, and using family and friends as taste testers, I developed what I think to be a perfect all purpose BBQ sauce," said Pomeranz. "It can be served hot or cold; as a marinade, glaze and dipping sauce for beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. It's great on hot dogs, burgers and fries, even in salads and slaws."
Pomeranz's private company, Around The Grill, LLC, will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Fielder's Choice to Twin Cities based charities. Among them are the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of The Twin Cities, and a charity called Fan's Choice. Fans of Fielder's Choice BBQ sauce can log on to www.AroundTheGrill.com and submit suggestions for organizations that are doing good work, and should receive a share of Around The Grill's proceeds.
Submissions will be accepted each year, through November. In December, fans will vote for the winner from a list of finalists that will appear on www.AroundTheGrill.com. A donation will be made to the winning charity on behalf of the fans of Fielder's Choice and Around The Grill.
Fielder's Choice is manufactured and bottled in Red Wing, Minnesota. The product is gluten and nut free.
