TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Some fans thought Brent Musburger might have been a tad effusive whenever ESPN's cameras showed the lovely Katherine Webb, the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, in the stands for Monday night's BCS title game against Notre Dame.
But not Webb, a former Miss Alabama, who said she was flattered by the attention.
"I've been reading on Twitter that Musburger had backlash that he's 'creepy,' " she told TMZ. "If I were to see him I would say, 'I don't think you're creepy at all!' "
Nevertheless, ESPN apologized Tuesday for things Musburger, 73, said about her, such as: "Wow, I'm telling you, quarterbacks: You get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow!"
Said ESPN in a statement: "We apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far, and Brent understands that."
Musburger's performance was a Twitter sensation during the game and so was Webb, who went from a few hundred followers to more than 175,000 overnight.
And some requested dates -- she was hit on more often than McCarron was by the Irish -- including one from Arizona Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett (who later tweeted that he meant to message her privately).
That got a tweet from McCarron, who advised Dockett "#betterkeepdreaming like the rest of these dudes."
