WASECA, Minn. - A murder suspect is dead following a high speed pursuit and rollover crash in southern Minnesota early Friday.

The State Patrol confirms that a pursuit started in Austin around 3 a.m., and wound through three counties. It ended around 4 a.m. when the driver, a 46-year-old man from Oakdale, was ejected after rolling his vehicle on Highway 13 south of Waseca.

He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The man who died is likely related to a homicide being investigated in Austin. A resident called 911 shortly around 3 a.m. after hearing yells for help from a home on the 500 block of 4th Street northwest in Austin. The caller reported seeing what appeared to be a body on the ground in front of the home, and a tall male leaving the scene.

An officer responding to the scene witnessed a red Saab speeding away from the vicinty of the murder. He then located the victim, who was deceased.

Approximately two blocks away an Austin Police Department officer witnessed a red Saab run a red light and began a pursuit, following the vehicle as it turned west out of town on County Road 46.

Minnesota State Troopers and Mower, Freeborn and Waseca County sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit, which stretched for 50 miles and reached speeds of 130 miles per hour. Stop sticks were deployed around 4 a.m. on Highway 13 just north of Waseca and squads in pursuit backed off.

The driver of the red Saab lost control of the vehicle and it flipped into a field. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died in the crash.

Five agencies, including three area sheriff's departments - Freeborn, Mower and Waseca - assisted the patrol in the pursuit.
