BAYPORT, Minn. - A snowmobiler was taken to the hospital after he went through ice on the St. Croix River.
The incident happened around noon Saturday near Point Road in Bayport.
According to authorities, responders pulled an unconscious male victim out of the water. They say he had been in the water 15-20 minutes before they reached him.
Chief Deputy Dan Starry says the man snowmobiled right past the thin ice warning signs and broke through the ice near the Xcel Energy Allen S. King power plant, which has a warm-water feed into the river.
The victim was taken to Regions Hospital. His identity hasn't been determined and his condition is unknown.
So far this winter, at least three Twin Cities area residents have died when their vehicles broke through ice.
