ST. PAUL, Minn. - The deadline for a deal to avert billions in spending cuts is just days away, but many Minnesota agencies still don't know how much of their federal funding will be slashed.

State officials say details from the federal government are sparse. Some have been able to guess how the cuts will affect their programs and services, but others are at a loss.

Lyle Mueller, finance director with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, says it's been frustrating. He says he hasn't been able to confirm almost any of the looming cuts his agency may face.

Minnesota receives among the lowest proportion of funds in the nation from the federal government. The cuts are expected to hit education hardest, as well as workforce development, national parks, airports and defense contractors.
