BURNSVILLE, Minn. - A Burnsville widow faces another painful loss after her home was burglarized and the urn containing her husband's ashes was stolen.

Last month, while on vacation over what would have been her 3-year anniversary, Patti Eriksen learned that thieves had broken into her home and stolen the urn.

"I have memories and I will be OK with the memories, but I would dearly, dearly love to have him back," said Eriksen. "My ashes were going to go in with his."

Dave Eriksen, 58, died from cancer of the esophagus in February of 2010. Each year on the anniversary of his death, Patti Eriksen has taken a vacation to escape.

She says the morning she took off for Florida, she left the front door unlocked for her nephew, who lives with her. She estimates her door was unlocked for around 12 hours. In that time, burglars walked in, taking coins, jewelry, her laptop and her love.

"He was my soul mate, had a passion for racing, he was the kindest and most considerate man," said Eriksen.

The urn reflected his passion for fixing up race cars. The Eriksens' adult children race sprint cars and chose a pewter box with a racing emblem on the front, depicting a wreath, checkered flag and a helmet.

She's offering $1,000 dollars to anyone who returns the urn, no questions asked.

"I bless you and I hope you have the compassion to bring him back to me. We all want him back home," she said.

Eriksen says the thieves also took an urn containing her dog's ashes.

"We can't figure out why somebody would take ashes. The value it has is to me and my family," she said.

Eriksen lives in the 1200 block of Echo Drive in Burnsville, if anyone saw suspicious activity on Feb. 11.  She is asking anyone with information to call her at 651-249-9163.

Burnsville Police are investigating and are looking for tips as well. So far, Eriksen says she hasn't learned of any leads, which is why she is offering her own reward.
