Suspect held in armed robbery of liquor store

CARLTON, Minn. - A 24-year-old Carlton County man is jailed after deputies say he attempted to rob a clerk at knifepoint Saturday night.

Squads were dispatched to Tall Pines Liquor in Carlton just minutes before 10 p.m. after the clerk reported that a robbery had just occured. The clerk was in the process of closing when he was approached by male with a knife and was told "this is a robbery, give me the money".

The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect then fled the store.

Deputies quickly identified a suspect and located him at a residence in the city of Carlton. The 24-year-old man was taken into custody and is being held at the Carlton County jail.

Charges of aggravated robbery, second degree assault and terroristic threats could be filed Monday.
