MINNEAPOLIS - Xcel Energy says electricity is back on after a traffic-related incident in the Uptown area of Minneapolis Monday morning knocked out power to hundreds.

Squads were called to an intersection near Lake Street and Blaisdale Avenue around 6:00 a.m. after a motorist apparently crashed into a power pole at 2917 5th Ave. South.

A spokesperson for Xcel Energy says more than 1,200 customers - both homes and businesses - were impacted. The outage also cut power to stoplights in the busy traffic area.

Minneapolis officers were on hand to help control morning rush hour traffic. Xcel says crews were able to restore electricity around 8 a.m..
