ST. PAUL, Minn. - A second round of April snow has canceled St. Paul's annual spring cleanup event.
The 2013 Citywide Cleanup event was initially scheduled for April 13. Because of snow, the city postponed the cleanup until Saturday, April 20. Now a new round of messy snow has hit, forcing the city to cancel the event completely.
The cleanup has happened for 26 years. It's a way to collect the trash that has accumulated in city parks, neighborhoods, and streets over the winter.
The city's website says that without volunteers, trash accumulates in many areas, polluting lakes, rivers, and detracting from the community's beauty.
The events were scheduled to take place at the following locations:
- Como Pavilion (1199 Midway Parkway)
- Harriet Island Pavilion (200 Dr Justus Ohage Blvd.)
- Highland Pavilion (1200 Montreal Ave.)
- Phalen Pavilion (1600 Phalen Dr.)
- Indian Mounds Shelter (10 Mounds Blvd.)
While the organized event is canceled, city officials say individual volunteers can still clean parks despite the weather. The city will provide trash bags at the Como Office, 1100 North Hamline Ave., during regular business hours: 7a.m.-3:30p.m. Monday-Friday.
