ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota veterans are pressuring top lawmakers to fund a proposed Minneapolis facility for veterans who need intensive care.

State Commander Don Pankake says the Minneapolis Veterans Home is a mess and desperately needs the skilled-nursing facility with 100 extra beds. He and other fellow veterans at the Capitol on Friday said finishing the veteran's home is their top priority.

The state has funded several chunks of a renovation over the years. Gov. Mark Dayton's plan for public construction projects includes $54 million for the facility, but the House plan doesn't.

House Capital Investment Committee Chairwoman Alice Hausman says it may be better to fund several veterans homes throughout the state. She says lawmakers need survey the state's needs before putting more money into the Minneapolis home.
