MINNEAPOLIS - Traffic is moving again on Interstate 94, nearly three hours after an accident involving a semi truck closed multiple lanes in each direction near the Lowry Hill Tunnel Wednesday morning, and triggered backups that stretched on for miles.
Authorities say a truck crashed through the median barrier before 6 a.m. Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske says the westbound semi went over the median and struck two eastbound vehicles. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported.
MnDOT cameras captured images of the truck straddling the median and morning rush hour traffic crawling by on the shoulders.
Things got even worse after the truck was cleared from the eastbound lanes and crews came in to clean up and do repairs to the median. More than two hours after the original incident all three eastbound lanes were closed.
The interstate finally reopened just before 8:45 a.m.
