ST. PAUL, Minn. - One of the pioneers in the regional craft beer craze is expanding its capacity to make beer.
Cameras descended on Summit Brewing Wednesday to capture a great spectacle, as cranes dropped huge aluminum tanks through holes in the brewery roof.
The tanks, custom crafted in St. Cloud, will each hold 600 barrels of fermenting beer, the equivalent of 18,000 gallons. Four were installed Wednesday and another eight are on the way, expanding Summit's beer-making capacity to 240,000 at any given time.
The activity is all part of a $13 million expansion to ensure that Summit can produce enough beer to meet increased demand both nationally and internationally,
