ROBBINSDALE, Minn. - An extended family is regrouping after fire caused significant damage to their duplex in Robbinsdale Thursday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched to the home on the 3200 block of Halifax Avenue North just before 11:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived they found flames and smoke billowing from the second floor.
Firefighters from a handful of metro departments were able to put the fire down, but not before the structure suffered extensive damage from fire, smoke and water.
The owners of the home lived on one side of the duplex while extended family members lived on the other. There were people home at the time the fire broke out but all managed to escape safely.
Fire officials are still assessing damage but the structure will likely be uninhabitable for some time.
