LINO LAKES, Minn. - The Lino Lakes Police department and the larger community are mourning the death of an officer over the weekend.
Officer Chris Bragelman was found dead early Sunday morning at the Blue Herron Bar and Grill in Hugo. Washington County Sheriff's deputies responded to a medical call shortly after closing time and found the 37-year-old officer unresponsive. He was declared dead on the scene.
Lino Lakes Police Chief John Swenson posted this message on the department's Facebook page:
Dear Lino Lakes Police Department Family and community,
It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that Sgt. Chris Bragelman passed away earlier this morning while off duty. Chris was a crucial part of the Lino Lakes Police Department and he will be missed by all.
Please keep Chris's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
Chief John Swenson
Swenson later called Bragelman a valuable person in the community, a firearms instructor and trainer for the department. The chief said office loved to send out the latest police training videos to his colleagues and mentor students.
Chris Brageman served in law enforcement for 16 years, the last eight and a half with Lino Lakes.
Brageman's is the second death of an officer to impact the department in recent years. Officer Shawn Silvera died back in 2005 when he was struck by a motorist fleeing police.
