MINNEAPOLIS - Give the folks at Surly Brewing credit: They do have a flair for the dramatic.
The highly-regarded Minnesota microbrewery celebrated its seventh anniversary Sunday night at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, releasing a anniversary brew called SeVIIn. a Belgian-style Strong Ale.
But the real star of the show was a series of sketches offering insight into what Surly's new Destination Brewery will look like.
The architect of the brewery, HGA, unveiled artist renderings of the new Surly beer hall, the entrance to the fermenting room and an exterior garden view of the beer hall.
Surly will move operations from its current location in Brooklyn Center to a brand new, $20M facility in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis. While no specific time table has been set, officials at Surly have said they expect to be brewing beer in Minneapolis by 2014.
