MINNEAPOLIS - A woman who struck up a friendship with a woman at a Laundromat and later kidnapped her baby has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Isabel Diaz-Castillo developed a fixation with 8-month old Carlos Orozco shortly after meeting his mother Victoria, and kidnapped the baby in February of 2013 as his mother took a shower.

Police launched a frantic search, issued an Amber Alert, and were led to Castillo by a father and daughter who spotted her vehicle. The baby was returned to his mother unharmed.

A judge gave Diaz-Castillo credit for 181 days served on the 3-year sentence. When her sentence is complete she will be subject to deportation, as immigration officials believe she was in the U.S. illegally.

The baby's mother had a victim impact statement read for her in court Monday. Victoria Orozco said she is grateful to have her baby back, especially since he was born prematurely.

"I would like to tell the people that it is a very ugly feeling to have a child taken away from you," Orozco wrote in her statement. "You don't know what happened or where your child could be, if he is ok, if he was eating, crying or what was she going to do to him. I just hope that Isabel knows that she has left a scary feeling and me not really trusting anybody no more."
