BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. - The Brooklyn Park Police Department has identified the officer who shot and killed a man following a traffic stop early on Friday.
Officer Ryan Soliday made the traffic stop on the ramp at Shingle Creek Parkway and Interstate 94 at about 2:20 a.m.
Authorities said that a struggle ensued and an officer pulled his weapon on the driver.
The family of Edmond Fair told KARE 11 that they feel that the officer should have subdued their relative rather than killing him.
Police said that Soliday was hired in January of 2010, and they describe him as an exemplary officer who has had no disciplinary action taken against him.
Soliday has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after this type of incident, officials said.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation.
