ST. PAUL, Minn. - A Maplewood man stands charged with two counts of second degree murder in the shooting death of a man in St. Paul November 26.

Prosecutors also charged 19-year-old Brandon Christopher with second degree assault and fleeing a police officer in connection with the incident.

Police were dispatched to a residence on the 800 block of East 4th Street on reports of a shooting. When they arrived they found a man who had been shot once in the head. A part from a gun and a bag containing ecstasy was also found at the scene.

Witnesses told officers that the victim was hosting a party where drugs and alcohol were being consumed, at which a male identified as "Brandon" was flashing a silver handgun. Police later identified him as Brandon Christopher.

Those with the defendant said Christopher left the party, then told them he needed to go back, saying he would retrieve a phone left at the party. When Christopher returned he smelled of gun powder according to those in the vehicle.

Witnesses told police that Christopher informed them "I smoked that guy," and told the driver to get going. The group fled to Hastings, where Christopher picked up another vehicle and drove away.

Three days later St. Paul Police later attempted to pull Christopher over and he led them on chase. Eventually officers say he got out of the vehicle and pulled a weapon, causing police to shoot and wound the suspect.

If found guilty in the murder Brandon Christopher could be sentenced to 40 years in prison on each count.
