Iron Girl-At first glance it sounds like a weight lifting competition. But it's far from that. It's more fun!
In reality, it's more like a test of iron will in endurance where participants, in this case all female, run 2 miles-bike 22 miles- and run 2 miles.
And it's a blast.
Last year was the first time I entered this race and true to how it had been described to me, it's very well organized.
First- organizers had enough 'porta-potties' for all the entrants. That's actually saying a lot! I've been at several road races, from 5ks up to marathons, and the biggest complaint I get from my girlfriends (and guy friends for that matter) is there aren't enough bathroom facilities. They've got 'em.
Second- A lot of the entrants encourage each other out on the race course. I lost count of how many other racers said, "You go girl" and "looking good". Again, I've been in many road races and you hear conversations along the way but not a lot of encouragement from the racers themselves. This race was entirely different and frankly, very inspiring.
Third- I'm not fast in any category. I'm a back-of-the-packer and they still had finishing line food available for those of us at the end.
So if this is something you're thinking about trying, come down this Sunday to the Normandale Lake and park area and check it out.
Here's a link to theIron Girl site.
See you at the finish line.
