My family and I had a wonderful 4th of July, and I hope you did, too.

We took the kids to an event in Wayzata that celebrates the Revolutionary War victory that lead to the independence of the United States of America.

Children of the American Revolution (CAR) sponsors a "Flying Pancake" breakfast at the historic Depot in Wayzata.

You literally do catch your breakfast as the cooks fling pancakes from the grill directly on to your plate from 5-10 feet away.

It's a good time.. and one that was made even better this year with Revolutionary War re-enactors.

Members of the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment as re-enacted by volunteers from our area came to the breakfast to fire their muskets and give us all a glimpse of what life was like for these early freedom fighters.

Sure, they get to dress up and have fun re-enacting battles from the war.  They also work very hard to make each part of their presentation authentic.  That includes extensive knowledge of the dress and custom of the time, in addition to the logistics of battle and use of their weapons.

It was a great history lesson from a dedicated group of people.

Members of the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment appear at several events in our area.  You can check out their web page here.
