Tennis records are so last month.
Record Wreckers is back and instead of doing a marathon type of record, we're going for speed.
Consider this, it takes an average four-some on a golf course 12-15 minutes to play one hole.
On Tuesday, StoneRidge Golf Club pro Eddie Wynne is going to play 18 holes in 27 minutes.
The current record for the fastest round of golf played by one man is 27 minutes, 9 seconds.
Here are the rules. He can use a cart. The ball must come to a complete stop before the next shot. And, he must take the proper penalty strokes.
Our secret weapon is a Gem E2. Its a super fast golf cart that can reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour. This cart is street legal, so it has license plates. Normal golf carts run about 10-15 mph.
During our practice run, I drove the Gem E2 and its incredible. Its like a Smart Car for golf carts. The thing really moves, but it does struggle going uphill for whatever reason - more than the carts I'm used to.
We'll have about a dozen volunteers helping us. There are all kinds of odd jobs from driving Eddie, calculating distances for approach shots, finding tee shots, giving him clubs, etc.
Truth is, we'll need all of the help we can get to pull this off.
During the practice run, we figured out quickly that Eddie must play well. We lose too much time if he's off line. He needs to hit as many fairways and greens as possible.
Eddie is not too concerned about the score, and neither am I. He's one of the top golfers in the state and still plays competitively.
The person who has this record shot a 92.
Bottom line, this is going to be blast. Check out my preview story.
Lets hope we break it on Tuesday!
