MINNEAPOLIS -- Sheriff's officials say an Anoka County jail inmate has died at a Coon Rapids hospital after being found hanging from a bedsheet earlier this week at the county jail.
Authorities found 28-year-old Steven James Carroll of Anoka hanging from a metal seam in the frame of his cell window on Thursday afternoon. The area was in lockdown at the time and jail personnel had been checking on inmates every 15 minutes.
Commander Paul Sommer tells The Star Tribune that Carroll was checked on minutes before he was found hanging. He died early Saturday morning.
Carroll had been in custody since Tuesday on charges of felony domestic assault, burglary and disorderly conduct. He also was the subject of an arrest warrant from Florida.
Sommer says Carroll left a suicide note in his pocket. His death remains under investigation.
