MINNEAPOLIS - This past spring, singer Jordis Unga represented Minnesota on the NBC show, "The Voice."
Unga made it to the top five of "The Voice" before being eliminated. Now, after living in Los Angeles for six months, the St. Paul native is looking to start her own music career by recording her first album.
"For the most part the writing is done, now it's all recording. That's the fun part," says Unga.
Unga received encouragement to write the album from people like music star Blake Shelton. Her family says they are not surprised by her move to accomplish her next goal.
"She always said she wanted to be a musician," says sister Ila Unga. "She never gave up on her dream and here she goes."
Jordis Unga came home last month to perform her latest tracks at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis. She had the opportunity to play the songs in front of a familiar crowd before entering the studio to record.
"It's the first time I listen to her voice and I think she's ready for the world," says father Tati Unga.
Though Jordis Unga may be ready to sing for the world, Minnesota will always be home.
"There's something about growing up here that's very humbling," says Unga, "Minnesotans are awesome."
