GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Twin Cities band Malamanya brought their Cuban son sound to the KARE 11 Backyard for Music Mondays. Watch them play two songs off their latest EP.

Malamanya, which means "bad habit" in Spanish, has been busy playing shows across the Twin Cities. Their next show is at Icehouse in Minneapolis on Friday, July 19 at 10 p.m.

"We typically get pegged as being a Cuban son group," lead vocalist Adriana Rimpel said. "But we also play a variety of other Latin genres like kumbia and rumba."

Malamanya has released two EP's over the last four years which include songs that are covers from different Latin American countries as well as original music.

The group played two songs original songs off of their second EP.

"The first song is called 'Red Light Morning' and that's a mixture of English and Spanish which is really demonstrative of the group," Rimpel said. "We all speak English and Spanish."

The second song, called "Cuidado de Olvidar," is a traditional rumba which is traditional Cuban music that is based on percussion, voice and dance.
