MINNEAPOLIS - The last five years have been tough on 16-year old-Cody Metz. In November of 2007, Cody had surgery to remove a tumor from his spinal column. Since then, he's dealt with headaches and nausea.
"It's been kind of a long medical process for me," said Cody. "I've had medical issues my whole life...it was a long process, but I'm here today."
Recently, he contacted Make-A-Wish about a dream of his. He wanted to join the Timberwolves on a road trip. And the team stepped up to make his wish a reality.
Cody sat on the bench and watched the team's shoot-around before their game with Atlanta. Several Timberwolves and Hawks players took some time to visit with Cody and share a few words of advice. Then he enjoyed the game from a suite, where he got a surprise visit from Timberwolves star Kevin Love.
For Love, this visit really hit home.
"It just puts everything in perspective," he said. "Shows you life is precious and you can't get too down about a hand injury because people are fighting childhood cancer and stuff like he's going through every single day, so it really means a lot for us to be able to do this."
After the game, Cody and his family joined the Timberwolves on the team's charter flight to Oklahoma City. He spent the day with the Wolves, joining them in the hotel and heading to the arena early to watch them take their shoot-around before their game with the Thunder.
During the game, he sat right behind the Wolves bench and even had a chance to meet Kevin Durant after the game.
Cody and his family are now back in the Twin Cities, but this is an experience this teenager will never forget. When asked if he thought this trip was neat, Cody said, "Yeah, it's unbelievable".
