Vikings stadium concept from HKS
ST. PAUL, Minn. - More Minnesota lawmakers are stepping forward with bills to tinker with financing of the new Vikings stadium.
Several new proposals from House Republicans are surfacing Wednesday. It's the same day the House Taxes Committee is reviewing a bill to increase sales taxes on pro sports gear and luxury suites at pro games, in response to lagging tax revenue from electronic gambling that's supposed to pay the state share of the $975 million downtown Minneapolis stadium.
One Republican bill would cut the state's $348 million share of the project by $200 million. Another would make the Vikings chip in more money or turn over naming rights to the state.
The memorabilia and seat tax proposal comes from Democratic Rep. Ann Lenczewski (len-CHESS'-kee. The Taxes Committee chairwoman says lawmakers have a responsibility to shore up stadium financing.
