MINNEAPOLIS - While many Minnesotans were firing up their barbecue grills and hitting the lakes to cool off on a steamy Fourth of July, Wild owner Craig Leipold was shelling out $196 million for free-agent stars Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
The price tag for the two top players on the market certainly gave him pause. But Leipold says the ability to fill two gaping holes on the roster and accelerate the team's rebuilding plans couldn't be passed up.
Leipold told The Associated Press on Thursday that he didn't think the team would get either star as late as Monday night. It became clear that the Wild were the big winners on Wednesday morning.
