ST. PAUL, Minn. - He was widely seen as the best available defenseman on the NHL's free agent market.

And the Minnesota Wild did whatever they could to make sure Ryan Suter would sign with them.

Suter was in St. Paul Monday to be formally introduced as a new member of the Wild and said he's excited to get going.

"You want to win. That's why we play the game so we can win the Stanley Cup," Suter told KARE 11's Dave Schwartz. "I think to get Minnesota hockey going again and to be able to help what they already have here, I think, is going to be a fun thing."

The 27-year-old Suter inked a 13-year, $98 million deal last week to join fellow free agent Zach Parise on the Wild.

"There's some pressure that comes with that be we understand that and we're excited," Suter said.

Suter is a Madison, Wis., native who played one year at the University of Wisconsin. He played seven seasons in Nashville before signing with the Wild.
