MINNEAPOLIS -- Thousands of Minnesotans are still without power, following a storm that left the state with a record number of outages.
Xcel Energy says they are working to restore power to the 72,500 customers still in the dark.
More than 590,000 Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin lost power at various points during severe thunderstorms from Friday to early Saturday.
The power company says they have more than 400 field crews and approximately 1,000 linemen dedicated to restoration efforts. Crews are working 16-hour shifts.
According to Xcel, damage reports and outage figures have pushed restoration times out as repairing damage to their equipment will take several days.
They say they expect to have power restored to the vast majority of customers by Wednesday.
Xcel is asking everyone to stay clear of downed poles and lines, and to report outages to 1-800-895-4999.
